This remote area of the Alps, between the Chamonix valley and the
Valais, offers the onlookers its particular patrimony and history. When
you walk across the hamlets, Vallorcine is alternately enticing or
mysterious, whether you are strolling along its picturesque "raccards"
(storehouses) or by its church, secluded and protected by the “Tourne” (protection against avalanches). Long winters, the isolation and the danger of avalanches are easy to imagine.
